STA-PUFT DOMITIAN

—Ephesos Museum, Selçuk 9/2020 — Sadistic Emperor Domitian, looking like the Sea-Puft Monster from ‘Ghostbusters.’ This head is as tall as I am. —– Domitian’s false front & a real hero, this battered Hercules.

IMPERIAL GROTESQUES

—The faces they deserve? Caesar Augustus & Empress Livia: their worst enemies couldn’t’ve devised a better revenge than these imperial portraits, rendered grotesque by time & conquest, for all eternity. Ephesos Museum, Selçuk, 9/2020

TURTLES AT KLAROS

This drawing is highly detailed and oversize, so if you’re on your phone, skip this first section and go to the next one. First, here it is entire:

— THE MAGNESIAN GUARD — A PHALANX OF HEROES! — Serdal Bey, Guardian a the the gate, has taken the time to become an expert on Magnesia. He’s been there for years! — They were beautiful… portrait herms identify whose theater seat belonged to whom, This one had a plaque — Caged now for protection, these bas-reliefs have endured much insult but remain impressive especially up close! —All his beauty gone, this gladiator maintains a now-frightful salute.

At Magnesia, 2022. Serdal loved his drawing.
