TRAVELING EAST - Trici
The Guardians ©2002 by Trici Venola. New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City. The Islamic Arts Wing was closed when I went back to get a detail on the snail-curlicue beard of this huge Assyrian Guardian spirit in stone. I flipped through my sketchbook for the captain at the guard station, and before I was finished he was on the phone. The curator himself unlocked the gate and stood with me for the ten minutes it took me to get the drawing right. Now THAT'S an Art Museum.
