Our Cafe That Was ©2011 by Trici Venola. The much-loved Ali Corlulu Medrese nargile (waterpipe) cafe, near the Grand Bazaar, as it appeared for years. Colored lamps, marble pillars surmounted by painted domes, little alcoves, birds' nests, carpets, mirrors, and lots of fragrant nargile smoke. Then restoration, and the place is stripped of charm as clean as a whistle. Everyone is hoping that the wonderful old atmosphere will return, and when it does, so will we.
