BONES OF BYZANTIUM - Trici
Sphendone-Ghost House Arch. Hippodrome, Sultanahmet, Istanbul, 2006. The huge bulkhead of the 2nd-century Sphendone holds up the entire hill, the Hippodrome, and a school built on top. People used to attach houses to the brick cliffside, but these have been removed, leaving ghost traces of lives lived there, like the broken commode in the center of this drawing.
