Boukoleon Lion Front ©2011 by Trici Venola. Archeological Museum, Sultanahmet, Istanbul. This 9th-century giant marble lion and his twin once reared on a balcony of the Boukoleon Palace, high above the Marmara Sea. A tall man might reach high and touch this lion's ear. A Crusader or a Muslim Conqueror bashed away his nose, but his roar is eternal.
