Boukoleon-The Sea Gate. Sultanahmet, Istanbul, 2008. Boukoleon Palace, City Walls. The 9th-century palace ruin was bisected by the Orient Express Railroad in 1871 by a progressive Sultan. Then about forty years ago the Turkish Republic filled in the harbor and built the Shore Road (Sahil Yolu). This was a sea gate right on the water. The wall behind gives on to the railroad. This ruin is now fenced off.
